Statement of principles

Created at the end of the 90s, the main objective of Chile 21 Foundation is to contribute, from a progressive view to the development of the country and to bring opinions to the discussions about studies and proposals of major public issues. It does not have personal purposes and does not support political candidates of any kind.

Our principles are based on a progressive view: liberty, social democracy, civic participation and an economy that includes everyone. That is why we maintain a friendly relationship, but an independent one, with the governments and all the political parties that belongs to the governing coalition called Concertación de partidos por la democracia. Our goal is to reach out to the public and to the organisations of the civil society, searching for and building a common future.
President Michelle Bachelet´s government has raised indispensable tasks for the national development and has great public support. In Chile 21, we want to contribute to her success from our role and with the same passion as we did with other governments of the coalition from the very start of our activities.

Chile 21´s fundament is the people. First and foremost the youth, the ones that will be able to contribute to the objective of building a more just, united and participative country, as well as contributing in the renewal of the Concertación. This is essential in all the activities of the foundation and in particular the ones in the Bicentenary Generation program.
Along with the youth, we count on people with great experience and knowledge, people who have had an opportunity to think about Chile and this allows them to be better prepared to face governmental tasks. Among them, a significant contingent has worked with the foundation and later moved on to public sector. Chile 21 has contributed with people and with ideas to the success of the governments of the Concertación. Those who have been integrated in different governmental charges perceive Chile in a way that we can completely identify with.

It is about increasing the capacity of ideas and achievements already acquired, while facing new challenges. The combination of government experience and new ideas are allowing the foundation to bring support to the public debate and to the renewal of the Concertación.

Our activities are based on voluntary work, program activities and cooperation, as well as private contributions.
We base our work on cross cutting issues and we seek to articulate the social dimensions and the techniques in public politics that best favour the Chilean citizens. This is the great national task we want to contribute to and the one we want you to join.
